This month's commissions show my work which has deep relief, sensual carving moving through it. It is all hand done using special skewed, paring chisels and fine hand planes.

My Lover's Desk, 1997

I found the wood in Norwich in 1984 and was immediately excited. It is extremely rare figured Brown English Oak. This was the only log I have seen and I asked Georgie if she would like to buy it and I would make her a desk. Patiently waiting 13 years, I finally made it, although the chair is still ongoing. With the design I have tried to overcome the masculine heavy feel that comes with pedestal desks. By giving it soft relief carving combined with gentle curves I hope I have achieved a feminine piece. I exhibited it twice that year and received a similar commission in English Walnut along with a side piece called "The World Cup Pedestal". 

The desk measures 158 cms x 90 cms x 76 cms high and costs from £16,000.

World Cup Pedestal

Solid English Walnut and Bronze. So called as the delivery was somewhat delayed due to the '98 World Cup. My client thought I had gone temporarily AWOL but was delighted with the end result.

A relief sculpture made from an old railway sleeper that is a memorial for a much loved dog.

Another relief sculpture in Indian Rosewood. After exhibiting it in '97 I was persuaded to sell it reluctantly. It is not often I sell my sculpture work. It is the freedom of working out of the commission system that is a joy.
