In '95 the sculptress, Judy Boyt, asked me to come up with a design for a client of hers in Zimbabwe. The Fireplace was for a tempestuous teenager with a brazen/punky attitude and the African Fireplace is a combination of this spirit. |

Sharp ebony spikes and spears combine with diamonds like shields. The split mantle shelf signifies her rebellion and Judy modelled the bronze back with 3 lion heads and 2 paws lurking about and waiting to pounce. |
The Deco Fireplace was a speculative piece, again made in '95. Birds Eye Maple, Macassar Ebony and Bronze, it measures 130 cms x 120 cms high x 20 cms deep. The ball running down the slope is an image I often work with. The Fireplace was purchased by a London collector. |

The Nightstalker is a fibre optic horror lamp made in Macassar Ebony, Thuya Burr, Oak Burr and a gold leaf ball. The light cables go up the two uppermost "arms". One shines out as a reading light and one shines back into the sculpture. The sharp ebony points have occasionally drawn blood and if the middle ones don't get you, the top ones will! |
