Board Room Table

I was commissioned by a well-known design/image consultancy to come up with a new boardroom table. I hoped they would buy The Gullwing Spiral but, after much deliberation, the brief was for a more solid feel that I summarised as Rustic Modernism. After agreeing the drawings and a model, I secured an amazing few boards of solid English burry Oak. These had many flaws with cracks, knots and dodgy bark.

Burr Oak Board Room Table

Having joined the top, made out of 4 book-matched boards, I asked Terry Martin to come and view it. To his eternal credit he was bold enough to go with it, bark holes and all. We used a clear epoxy resin to fill the cracks and shakes. The underneath is illuminated with 3 dichroic lights and the delivery (see this month's diary) nearly killed us.

153 x 72 x 75 cms high.

This was a speculative piece made for 100% Design in 1996. It's MDF covered in metallic purple car paint with 10mm toughened glass and two gold leaf eggs. It was bought by a journalist, which I felt was perfect. It's not a functional desk but one to ponder at, accessorise with a laptop and mobile. Price guide in any colour approx £2,160.

Perspective Kitchen

Made for a seaside kitchen in Cornwall, using Lacewood and "Scan & Go" pebbles. The inspiration is from boxes of fish on the quay at Padstow. Each door has a visual box thrown into it, which perspectively aims at a vanishing point. There are three vanishing points, all pointing to the sea.
